Final video
In this final video, we show our favourite moments that happened during the filming of our videos.
Joanie's tire failure, Sarah-J's love of pizza and Nayyarah's growing hatred for all of us. Making the videos was a lot of fun, but boy are we glad it's over!
Entertainment news - Tiger Woods
In this video, fictional Tiger Woods has a book signing event going on. We go live to find out more dirt on his relationships with numerous women. Woods runs off in a Mini Cooper, but not to worry! Our team of highly skilled anchor + camerawoman were on the scene of the escape.
We late find Woods' car in the middle of nowhere. To our surprise, a mistress pops out of nowhere. To find out what happens next, watch the video!
NOTE: THIS IS ALL FICTIONAL

Streeter video - Chilean miners
In this video (before we realized we could make-up far more exciting scenarios), we ask students if they thought the chilean miners were heros or not and why.
Getting the people to talk to us was quite a challenge.

Feature news - Airport arrest
In this (fictional) news event, a woman addicted to lipgloss gets arrested at a make-believe airport for allegedly trying to sneak a tube of the glossy stuff through security. An intrepid security guard catches (read tackles) her to the ground and arrests her while a "has been" partner who wasn't even there tells the tale. "Shades" also makes an appearance to explain to us what happened.
One minute news event - Internet connectivity
The (almost) lack of wireless internet connectivity in the G wing is can be detrimental to a Sheridan student's learning experience. Here on Sheridan Rants, we go deeper into the effects of this lack of wireless internet connectivity on students and why it is so damn frustrating!

Surviving airplane food
I exactly one week from now, I will be traveling to India. The fun thing in this is that Element Crossfit has started a real food challenge for the next five weeks... and I joined in. The challenge calls for all participants to eat real food, as in, no processed food, no sugar and high quality dairy for six weeks. Today is day 5 of the challenge.
This will be an interesting experiment once it's time to fly away. Surviving airplane food. I have a basic idea of what I could do.
Once you get through security, purchase the following:
1. Water bottle. A BIG one. Don't drink it all at once!! I haven't writen a post about "Surviving the airplane lavatory".
2. Get some nuts or seeds for airplane munchies.
3. Most cafés sell salads, fruits and veggies. Go buy some if you're going to be on a long flight.
When you receive your plateau of plastic food, dump the cake. Give it to the kid sitting in front of you, maybe you can bribe him into being quiet for the remainder of the flight. Dump the bread and butter too, you don't need that. Pick off the meat and veggies. If you have fruit, lucky you! Eat it too. Leave the rice and potatoes alone, you don't need those either.
If you're still feeling hungry, eat some of your salad, nuts or fruits that you oh-so-wisely purchased before boarding the plane. But not all of it. Save some for later!

Hemp Seeds

If you are like me, you will find it very difficult to get protein into every meal you eat. Cooking up chicken and steak and burgers and fish for every meal and snack can be such a hassle sometimes. This is where hemp seeds come in play.
They are loaded with good healthy protein and fats. They don't really taste like anything, so it's really easy to stick them in yogurt, salad, cottage cheese, and anything else you might like to much on (as long as it's healthy, of course!). You don't need a lot of them to feel full. Usually, approximately 1 tbsp will be enough for one meal.
If you buy them at Whole Foods or Organic Depot, they can get a little pricey. Luckily, Bulk Barn sells them at a much more affordable price.
Have you ever tried hemp seeds? How do you like eating them?

The crossfit hands
I am sure someone has suffered from the crossfit hands at some point in their life. We all know how it happens. If you're not strong enough to do proper pull-ups, you have a huge kip, which usually ends up with this kind of results:
My hand after pull-ups, handstand push-ups and snatches. Photo taken by Rachael DeYoung.
Or perhaps you managed to complete a 11:41 Angie, like Jon Robichaud

Or maybe a friend of yours asked you to do a really sh*tty workout for a school project and you agreed to.

Regardless of what you did, having torn hands is incredibly annoying as well as very painful. I know that when I tear my hands, I am off of pull-ups and bar work for at least a week, but usually more.
I try to take care of my hands. I had bought a pedicure egg to use on my hands, but that didn't get the calluses in the crease of my fingers, where I got them the most.
A couple of months ago, my friend Michelle Uba arrived at the gym as excited as a kid on christmas. She had found the solution to our calluses problem!
A Dremel is great to use on those calluses! Photo Credit Viewpoints.com
A Dremel! That thing sands down calluses like nobody's business! It gets absolutely everything. It is fantastic!
No more calluses = no more hands tearing during WODs = more pull-ups please!
Using the Dremel once a week will keep your calluses in check. I also recommend using hand moisturizer to keep the skin nice and supple.
What are your tricks to keep your calluses in check?

Beauty in Strength
There was a spread posted in the Crossfit Journal this past december. It was of pictures of women working through the 2009 Crossfit Games.
It was truly inspiring.
Fashion magazines constantly push the image of beauty as being stick thin, petite and delicate.
But look at these women!
They are all beautiful. They are strong. They have legs that can backsquat at least 175lbs. Their backs have felt the strain of a 200lbs deadlift. They know what failure feels like. They also know how to overcome it.
They know how to dig deep to find the strength to throw that 95lbs bar over their head one more time to get just one more rep out of their 15 minute time allowance.
Every rep counts. Every second counts.
These girls don't give up.
To me, they are much more beautiful then the women posing and smiling on fashion magazines.
